Photography - Learning to use a DSLR

I have taken several images after being instructed to use the handout to
experiment with APERTURE, ISO, EXPOSURE etc. My images are
hit and miss I have learnt how to use a DSLR I still feel I could do with
some more practice but eventually I will be able to take high standard
photos of my work in the future, In and out of college.

OUGD402 Brief 1 - ANORAK

http://shop.anorakmagazine.com

Anorak Magazine, After this wednesdays lecture in illustration
I found a interesting and quirky kids magazine called ANORAK
only I feel like a kid because I love the illustration so much its
really fun and connects with me.

The main designer Anna Dun stands out to me although there isn't
a lot of information on her I plan on visiting the village bookshop
in leeds corn exchange to have a flick through the actual copies of
anorak and see if there are any other illustrations in different
publications.

Her work is playful and bright and also has an element of graphic
design I would argue she is graphic design based swell as illustration.

OUGD402 Brief 1 - Made By Analogue

When browising the internet I came across these guys and I was
instantly taken in, They're a design team based in Leeds! - And I
love leeds, I started to look more into them and I really liked what
I found.

They tackle all their work head first with the question 'what if?'
The concept is simple but opens so many opportunities this engages
with public and clients.

Their a 3 team members..

  • Barry Darnell - The Founder and Managing Director, There
isn't a great deal of information in his brief about me that really
sums him up other than his entrepreneur skills this is good but i'd
love to find out more about him and his idea behind the studio and
his influences this goes for the rest of the team.

  • Billy Burgoyne - Digital Director, Billy overseas the art
direction once again i'd like to find some more out about Billy too
it might be worth writing an email I'm just not sure how to go about it.
  • Jake Richards - Design Director, again doesn't say much about him..

Here's some of their fabulous work!

Spongebob Packaging!

Toy Con

The Dogging club which happens to be one of the most amazing
bars in Leeds it was a shock to find out they had designed the
branding for them.

OUGD402 Brief 1 - Task 1 SNASK

SNASK Design brand/company is in Sweden - Stockholm,
it originally started out in Carlisle (england) they wanted a new
scene or in their words they wanted to get away from the chavs!

They were inspired by this quote to strive further by trying
the impossible one should reach the highest
grade of the possible”August Strindbergs

Here's some of their work its consistent, direct and out there.

I think their design agency is quirky and fun I can imagine it
being a great experience to work there!
Even the manifesto makes me giggle at times its fun and very
to point and true. Everyone working there seems to be having
a great time and thats what anyone would want to be happy!
I'm going to continue looking at whats going on in the world
of SNASK as there work and fun ethics inspire me hopefully
I will be able to show this in my work.

OUGD402 Brief 1 - 5 Reasons

5 Reasons why I chose to study on this course...

1. "Home is where the heart is" My friends, family and boyfriend all live in the leeds area, family is very important to me and inspire me greatly to achieve the best.

2. To get involved on live briefs and identifying what I would like to do as my career.

3. Meet new people, I like making friends and socialising, and because the College is such a close knit place its a less scary environment.

4. Its the best course that suits my needs personally and I feel will rise me to the challenge.

5. Having my own studio space, as I studied before at vernon street doing the ED Diploma I knew the drill - I loved every second and I hope the next 3 years will be the same if not better.

5 Things that I want to learn during my time on the course...

1. To develop my skills further and also learn new ones.

2. I'd like to learn about the print industry, I have keen interest in this as my dad is a print manager - Id also like to learn different print processes aswell as learning to use the letter press.

3. Experience! I want to gain experience in industry, and also learn and be inspired by my peers in the studio.

4. Work placement, to learn about the industry and test the waters for myself without the pressure of an apprenticeship.

5. To improve my explanation/annotation of my work, so it is clearer, more professional and informed well.

5 Things that I think are my strengths...

1. Idea generation, Once I get one idea they sprout quickly.

2. Non computer based work, I feel my hand generated work is better then my computer based work I would like to improve on this throughout the course.

3. Punctuality, I don't like being late I like to be in the know rather than clueless as to whats going on.

4. Organising my calendar trying to balance my work and college work and social activities  (my filofax is a godsend!)

5. Bargains! I like to get the cheapest and bestest deal I can - I will do as much as I can to get the best deals!

5 Things that inspire me...

1. My peers/friends they all have a quirk about them and express their individuality freely this inspires me to strive forward with my individuality, indepence hopefully finding myself.

2. Anything that catches my eye, when I travel I notice adverts in train stations and on billboards, things like new book covers filled with innovative type inspires me.

3. Colour, there is so many colours in the spectrum and its everywhere - I find new colours I like all the time on absolutely anything, I like to experiment with colour when I see fit.

4. FOOD! mmm.. I love to eat and I love to cook when I see something Ive never see before I want to know what it is how its made and make it myself but better! another thing in the category of food would have to be handcraft chocolate yum yum I visited harrods last week and spent tons on the chocolate so many flavours you would not expect to be in chocolate (my favourite chocolate would be Charbonnel et Walker.

5. People, just people. They can achieve so much (not all of them) and cease to amaze me nearly every day.
