OUGD402 Brief 2 - Monogram Logos

My current logo is a monogram I really like the intuitive
design of using white space, I looked at some familiar
monogram logos.

Definition of monogram.
noun
  1. 1
a motif of two or more interwoven letters, typically a person's initials,
used to identify a personal possession or as a logo.
"a handkerchief with his monogram embroidered on one corner"

GE
I chose this logo because of its flourishes its very expressive and the letters easily
stand alone.

Victoria and Albert - Museum

Initially I didn't notice this as a monogram its extremely clever how they have
utilised the A and & to conjoin its very sophisticated and represents how
organised the museum is.

Louis Viutton

Very classy logo for a high class brand again like the V&A logo it is very
sophisticated I can't quite explain why I get this feeling about the logo I think
its because of the sleek format and negative space.

OUGD402 Brief 1 - Creative review, Canadian passport design secrets.

http://www.creativereview.co.uk/cr-blog/2015/january/canadian-passport-black-light-ultra-violet

"New Canadian passports have been hiding a whole series of design gems between their innocuous-looking pages; you just need an ultra-violet light to see them...
While the new-look passports have been in use since July 2013, there's one aspect to their design that has not (to our knowledge) been duly celebrated until very recently. This week, a post on Imgur via Reddit alerted our attention to one of the most surprising design reveals we've seen. As one commenter pointed out, "It's like a party on every page"."

I find this an extremely clever design decision not only does
it look amazing it very effectively can prevent passport
forgery. Not only is this beautiful fluorescent design on 1
page spread but almost all of them making it virtual impossible
to re-produce. Without the UV light they look fairly plain and
average for a passport putting the UV paint in this passport
has truly put some passion back into the 'passport'.

OUGD402 Brief 2 - My current branding for myself

My Branding

My Facebook page this is my current branding for Facebook I have a group
which I update with pieces of work I am doing including personal work
I have also recently started selling screen prints. Although my page is good
it could be better if i put more effort into it like frequently updating it.

I do atm have a small website with work this is quite old and could
do with a re-vamp and update. As it is not consistent.

Current business cards

Current logo - although I like my logo I don't feel it represents me its supposed
to be LT for my initials but it looks slightly like LJ with the typeface
I chose to use I chose to use the heart because of the passion I put into
my design so id like to keep a similar theme or shape involved I struggled
with chosing colour because I really can't decide what is me I think my
next step to branding myself is a mind map on who I am.

OUGD402 Brief 2 Creating a memorable brand experience.

http://www.designcouncil.org.uk/news-opinion/creating-memorable-brand-experience

"So how do you create a brand experience? If you work in marketing,
marketing communications or design, you've very probably had
discussions about how to do this. Strictly speaking of course,
you cannot 'create' one since experience - by its very nature - is in
the hands of the person doing the experiencing. That said, there are
some steps brands can take, as listed below:

1. Orchestrate the message

Keep repeating the message of your brand - consistently and frequently
 - to minimise cognitive strain. Make it so familiar to audiences that
they recognise it immediately.

2. Select and apply the most effective touchpoints

Find the best approach for your targeted audience, one that will deliver
your message in the most cost-effective manner.

3. Create a meaningful, relevant and distinctive touchpoint execution

Make the most of every product's concept, appearance and user-interaction
to grab the audience's attention and fully communicate the message
of your brand.

For me, these are the three key actions involved in creating - or improving
- a brand experience. They depend, of course, on the maturity of a
particular experience - how old or new it is - but for the purposes of this
article I'm assuming most of you will need to work on every phase. With
that in mind, let me share with you some of my findings about how people
experience an event. This may well help to influence the focus of your efforts."

Although this is specifically aimed toward a larger brand then branding
myself I found in this article that it is important to keep your brand consistent
so it can be fed easily to clients, to communicate who I am and my message
for my brand.

OUGD402 Brief 1 - A typographic tour of sheffield

A typographic tour of sheffield

This weekend I went to see Slipknot at sheffield arena I decided
to extend my weekend by visiting round sheffield I'd never been
to sheffield before so we had a wonder round the steel town stumbling
upon and indoor garden!? which inside contained the Sheffield
millennium museum which was really interesting it had exhibitions
on colour and sheffield's steel works.

When looking round the gift shop I found some tour guided maps
of sheffield one in particular jumped out at me "A typographic
tour of sheffield" By Paul Boardman.

I tried to visit as many as possible but it was very hard to find some
of the places, here are some photos of the type. (unfortunatley my
phone died on the trip meaning I had no camera so these are images
I have gathered off the internet.)

20. Alfred beckett and sons, Brooklyn works
green lane and ball street
Brooklyn works were named in 1839, due to the factories links with
the nascent New York suburb; indeed sheffield steel was later used to
build the brooklyn bridge. The works where seriously damaged in the
Great Sheffield flood of 1864 as noted in Samuel Harrisons historical
tome "The works of messrs beckett and slater were injured to a serious
extent. The boundary wall was carried away and a large steam engine
boiler was torn from its bed, and washed dow stream some hundred yards"
(out of the guide)

24. Kid Acne Never you mind
This is just one of many everyday sayings Kid acne painted around
sheffield in 2010. some still survive: theres one at Park hill, and
another on the side of a yorkshire art space on brown street . Others
are gone though. (out of the guide)

17. Ship Inn
A public house has stood in this spot since at least 1833 , possibly
as early as the the 1750s. A plaque outside declares that two seaman
died in the 1864 flood when the secret tunnels underrates the pub were
flooded. One of the more outwardly attractive pubs in sheffield , it was
rebuild in its current form in the 1920s for tomlinsons anchor brewery,
which is probably where the name "ship in comes from'
(from the guide)

Design, develop and produce self branding that effectively communicates and promotes you as an individual, designer and learner. You should aim to communicate the context of your interests by referencing specific designers, studios, principles and audiences where necessary.

Your resolution to this brief should be a representation of what YOU see as important as an individual designer and learner in light of what you have learned on the programme to date. You will need to consider the following:

Who are you now? What have you learned? What skills do you have? What do you know? What do you believe? In answering these questions remember that your design practice is informaed by a broad range of social, ethical, creative and professional concerns. What are they.

What information do you need to include? and what formats can you use to effectively communicate or promote this information? What tone of voice best reflects you, your practice anf your ambitions?

What experiences have shaped your opinions and views both in and outside of te programme?

What are your creative concerns, opinions and beliefs and how do you communicate these practically, conceptually a practically? Wht has informed these decsions and who are the contextual references that reflect your individual focus?

What is 'Brand You'? Your visual identity will help tie the information together. What fonts, formats, colours and production methods will help communicate and enhance your content.

OUGD402 Brief 1 - How do you picture city life?

How do you picture city life?

I found this article in the metro really interesting and put a
perspective on other creative lives I particularly enjoyed reading
and looking at Vic Lee's (Illustrator, typographer) Typography
piece Highs and Lows his concept to include others in his work
really intrigues me and inspired me to look at his other work.

I really enjoy typography and his style is very detailed and ornate
this is what I love most about it. He has co-operated with big brands
such as Farmhouse goose and Wella. I think he may well be my
newest favourite typographer.

This is a video I enjoyed most which I found on his website it
shows his process of working and is therapeutic to watch.
